Recently, I finally had the opportunity to attend the AusMumpreneur Conference in Melbourne.  I had been wanting to attend the conference for many years but it was always held around my son’s birthday.  Over the years of running Bubbaroo and in my former life BC (before children) I travelled a fair amount and 99.9% of the travel has been solo travel.  The one rule I have is I’m never away for my kids’ birthdays.  The Conference was very inspiring and at the Conference I met some amazing aspiring AusMumpreneurs and thought I would spread the word by sharing some of their amazing stories with you.

Monique Treder – Big Cheese at Happetite

Monique was one of the first Mumpreneurs I met at the Conference.  I looked down at Monique’s business card and noticed the job title “Big Cheese”.  Monique explained how she was inspired to create Happetite, a feel good food gift service, after giving birth to her second child. After relocating overseas with her husband’s work Monique was feeling isolated and had a new baby to care for and a toddler. Then one day out of the blue, someone she hardly knew, dropped off a homemade meal. The meal was so gratefully received and made Monique appreciate the uplifting nature of food. Monique wanted others to experience the same feeling and so Happetite was born!

Happetite is such a great idea for new parents, as a thank you gift, for someone who is grieving the loss of a special someone or anyone going through a particularly hard time.  Earlier this year a friend of mine was involved in an accident which had her off work for 10 weeks, so we prepared a meal roster but it was a real struggle at times when you don’t live close by or you’re also not keeping your own head above water.  This is where Happetite can help!

Nothing says “I am thinking of you” more than a home cooked meal. You can choose from 1, 3, 5 or 7 meals, add a personal note and Happetite get cooking and look after the rest.  Happetite currently delivers in NSW and the ACT.  Happetite have plans to expand but Monique’s current focus is NSW and the ACT.

Helen Andrew – Spare Harvest

The amazing Helen Andrew has created a marketplace for growers and foodies to recycle, up-cycle, reduce and reuse. It’s a great way to share, swap and sell your extra produce and garden resources with your local community.

Helen came up with the idea as a way to combat large scale problems. Did you know that roughly one-third of the 1.3 billion tonnes of food produced in the world for human consumption every year, gets lost or wasted? Or that a very low percentage of all food wastage is composted> Most of it ends up as landfill. Methane emissions from landfill represent one of the largest sources of Greenhouse Gas emissions from the waste sector. Another worldwide issue of concern is that we have a simultaneous epidemic happening – millions of people are eating themselves to death, while millions are starving themselves to death.

After moving to acreage on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Helen was thrilled by the abundance of fruit trees in her back garden. But when harvest time came, she had way too many mandarins to eat. Despite trying to give them away, she ended up having to bury them. I decided to do something about the wastage I experienced and Spare Harvest was born. Out of this simple story, I’ve created a global sharing movement that anyone, anywhere, can join. Together we can reduce wastage and live more sustainably. Connect with like-minded members who have a passion for living sustainable – sign up abd become a member or download the Spare Harvest app from the Apple App store or Google Play. www.spareharvest.com

Nicole Gibson – Soka Australia

Söka Australia, is a new Brisbane based company created by the gorgeous Mum of 4 Nicole Gibson.  Nicole is a Registered Nurse, Co-Author of parenting book Raising Children, featured guest radio expert on all things parenting, a college basketball coach and referee among other things!

Nicole invented the Söka tub primarily to be used for separately soaking soiled, coloured and delicate clothing all in the one space saving bucket which allows for multiple detergent use. The Söka tub allows you the option to soak and hand wash clothes separately, together, at different duration, using different soaking solutions.

The Söka Tub laundry system increases the usability and functionality of the laundry sink, whilst saving water, detergent, space and encourages recycling of waste water.  We all know how handy the Söka tub will be for parents of little ones and also big ones from cloth nappies to cricket whites!  The Söka tub fits easily in all shaped laundry sinks. There is still room to wash your hands, or looks sleek and stylish on any bench or bookshelf around your home.

Ergonomically designed and recyclable. It is also proudly made in Brisbane Australia. With creative thinking, the Söka tub can be anything you want it to be – indoor compost bin, a functional yet stylish gift hamper, storage around the home or whilst camping – the options are endless!
