Sleeping Tips

Here at Bubbaroo we often have new Mum’s asking us for tips on sleep routines and putting babies and children to bed. We’ve pooled our experience and knowledge together and come up with these key pointers – hope you find them helpful!

  1. Ensure baby is fed, burped, clean, changed, warm and safe
  2. Baby should be dressed appropriately for the temperature of the room (see our temperature guide*). *Please note that this is a guide and that like adults the amount of clothing and bedding required to keep an individual baby comfortable may vary from baby to baby as it does for adults. The most important thing to note is the comfort of your individual baby, try placing your hand on their chest once they're asleep. If they feel hot, remove a layer of clothing. If they don't feel adequaately warm, add a layer.
  3. Baby wearing a Bubbaroo Joey Swag in the appropriate size and weight
  4. As long as the baby is dressed appropriately in accordance to the temperature of the room and is wearing the right TOG Joey Swag, no additional bedding should be required.
  5. Baby should be put to sleep on their back with their legs down near the bottom end of the cot/bassinette
  6. For smaller babies that are unable to roll from their back to their stomach, excess material at the bottom of their Joey Swag can be tucked into the base mattress of the cot. This keeps baby secure, down the bottom of the cot and safe on their back (in accordance with SIDS and KIDS guidelines). Warning – Do not tuck the bottom of the Joey Swag into the cot/bassinette if your baby is able to roll from their back to their stomach.
  7. Do not use cot bumpers or put any toys inside the baby’s cot as these may be a suffocation hazard
  8. Have your sleep routine –set bed time, after a bed time story and a cuddle. This way your child gets to know that it’s sleep time and that there’s routine.
  9. If your baby is unwell and/or has a temperature seek medical advice promptly
